It is currently 2:30 Central Time as I write this. As of now we have two games that were PPD due to Covid-19 (BAL @ MIA & NYY @ PHI). We also have four different games that have weather concerns. I did not plan on doing a write up today but with everything going on, I felt it was necessary to talk briefly about this slate.
I would like to start by saying that I won't be playing heavy money on this slate. As the day went on, I ended up cutting my entries almost in half. That's how iffy I feel about tonight. I don't necessarily hate the players and it's still not a "small" slate by any means but with all of the news coming out about players testing positive, it definitely has a weird feeling to it. We are on a tear to start the season however and I'm going to do my best to keep it going. No matter how weird tonight may be, there is still money to be won.
Before I break down each position, here's what we know so far:
PPD: BAL @ MIA, NYY @ PHI
Small weather concerns: MIL @ PIT, KC @ DET - These games should play but keep an eye on them
Major weather concerns: CHC @ CIN, CWS @ CLE - Will be avoiding the Indians game. Still not sure about Cincy
PITCHER
Mike Foltynewicz $10.3k - First start of the year for Folty and he gets to do it in a place that tends to be more friendly to pitchers. He has gotten better through the years and I think he can put together a solid outing vs the Rays who do strikeout a lot. If you don't want to spend up for him then there are a few more options.
Tyler Glasnow $8.9k - Glasnow can rack up the K's pretty quickly but does not have an easy lineup to do it against. The upside is there and we don't have a ton to choose from on this slate. I think he will have some high ownership here but don't let that scare you away from him. The Braves still do have some aggressive who strikeout often.
Josh James $8.6k - I expect him to be high owned. Most people are probably going to pair him with Folty or Glasnow. James can strikeout hitters with the best of them and the Mariners can bat with the worst of them. I'm not going to overthink this one. If he burns you then he most likely burns half of the field too so just plug and play. This is who I would go with on Fanduel as well.
Mike Montgomery $6.5k - Gross. It didn't feel good typing his name in but if you are looking to get weird then why not use the guy who gets to face the Tigers? Detroit has struckout 46 times (!) in their first 3 games. That's bad. Mike also has had previous success against the Tigers and you can definitely squeeze in some big bats if he's in your lineup.
Catcher
Willson Contreras $4.8k - If there wasn't weather concerns then I would really like this game today and Contreras has been looking great. He gets Wade Miley and is in the middle of a lineup that will put some runs on the board.
Wilson Ramos $3.8k - This is most likely where I'll go (and probably everyone else). Mets look good tonight and I'll probably have at least two of them.
First Base
Pete Alonso $5.6k - He's expensive but like I said, this game should have a lot of runs and he will be a huge part of it.
Mitch Moreland $3.7k - Batting 5th and love the matchup for him and the rest of the Red Sox. Good price for him as well.
CJ Cron $3.3k - Great one-off play (even if you're pitching Montgomery). Cheap!!!!
Second Base
Keston Hiura $4.4k - He's such a good hitter and gets to face Brault. Solid play for sure.
Whit Merrifield $4k - Whit at 4k? That's not going to be like that forever so it might be wise to take advantage of it now.
Third Base
Kris Bryant $5.5k - Rough start for KB but this is the series that will get him going. He loves being in Cincy.
Rafael Devers $5.2k - Another piece of that game that I love. Hard not to just do a full game stack there.
Eugenio Suarez $4.6k - Caution with this one because of weather but this game has a good chance to be a shootout. Suarez vs lefties.
Shortstop
Alex Bregman $5.1k - I don't think many people will be on him with the other options but you can put him at 3rd or short. Stros have a good chance to put up some runs tonight.
Amed Rosario $5k - This is expensive for him and I'd be against it if he wasn't at the top of a lineup with a high implied total and wind blowing out at Fenway.
Xander Bogaerts $4.2k - This is too cheap for him and he's hitting clean up in that game.
Outfield
JD Martinez $4.7k - He really burned me yesterday and looked awful at the plate but it's hard to see the Sox scoring a lot of runs without him
Nick Castellanos $4.5k - Great matchup and I'll keep my eye on this game all the way to locks because I do really want to have pieces of it.
J.D. Davis $4.4k - Love this play. Also available at Third Base.
Andrew Benitendi $3.7k - On the cheaper side and batting leadoff in a game that I really like.
Michael Brantley $3.3k - Not sure what he has to do to be priced higher. Great hitter in a great spot.
Alex Verdugo $3.1K - Had to mention him at this price. Batting 7th for the Red Sox.
