These picks have been helping a lot of you so far this season so let's keep it going! Monday's picks were on point and I was happy to see that you guys took advantage of it. We have a 9 game slate tonight with little to no weather concerns and a lot of big bats. Overall, I really like this slate and I think there's a specific strategy to it. Let's go!
Pitcher
Jacob deGrom $12k - He's the best pitcher in baseball and gets a match up at home against the Red Sox. A pretty embarrassing start to the season for Boston as they are 1-4 with two of those L's coming from the O's. They blew up for 13 runs in game 1 but have been mediocre since then. I think deGrom will have a good game here but it will be hard to fit him in with some of the big bats that are going today. I do like Gerrit Cole more but I'd be crazy to not include deGrom in this article.
Gerrit Cole $11.4k - He has major upside with his ability to rack up the strikeouts and he should be able to do it against Baltimore. I will say however, the Orioles' bats looked really solid in that series against the Red Sox but they haven'e seen a pitcher of Cole's caliber yet. If Gerrit is on, there's no way they will be able to hit him. He pitched a solid game in the opener against the Nats, only giving up one hit through 5 innings (a home run from Adam Eaton). This is where I would go if you're stuck between him and deGrom.
Matthew Boyd $9k - I hope people haven't forgotten what he did last year with his 11.56 K/9. The Royals haven't been able to hit lefties in years and after his last start, I don't think many people will be on him. KC has a few guys that can hit (Merrifeld & Soler) but that doesn't worry me too much. In fact, you can absolutely put him at pitcher with Whit Merrifield as your one off. We'll get to that later.
Chris Paddack $8.4k - This is where I imagine most people will go. I think he's pretty under-priced for a top tier pitcher with a cake match up. He gets the Giants at Oracle Park and honestly, that's all that needs to be said. I think he will smash this price tag. (This would be my Fanduel pitcher as well).
Andrew Heaney $7.9k - The back tightness is kind of concerning and he only threw 67 pitches in his last start against Oakland but he did look good. That wasn't an easy match up but he held those A's bats quiet and struckout 6 batters in the process. I will be attacking Seattle's lineup a lot this season with their inability to put the bat on the ball. I'm going to label this one as a RISKY play but it could pay off. We have to hope Maddon doesn't take him out too quick but you never know with that guy.
Danny Duffy $7.1k - Pitching gets pretty ugly once you get to around this point. Last year, Duffy finished the season with a 4.34 ERA and a 7.92 K/9. Those are some pretty solid numbers these days. In Danny's first start against the Indians, he only lasted to the 4th inning and was pulled out after allowing just 2 runs and 3 hits. A great sign was that he didn't walk anybody which has been Duffy's biggest problem in his career. I really like this match up for him in Detroit, against a weak Tigers lineup. Hopefully people see the 7.4 DK points from his last start and shy away from him.
Catcher
Gary Sanchez $5.6k - Fair to say that the Yankees in general are a great play tonight. Just grab Gary if you can afford him but don't ruin the rest of your lineup in the process.
Jason Castro $3.6k - This is a solid spot for Jason. He has enough power to at least give you the opportunity for a long ball and that's really all you're looking for when picking a catcher, cheap bomb threats.
Salvador Perez $2.6k - He's going to keep drawing ownership if they continue to price him this low while also hitting at the top of the lineup. Going against a lefty so he's just another cheap bomb threat.
Ausin Barnes - $2.6k - Same price as Perez but will not draw any ownership. Keeping an eye on this game with all of the tension between these two teams
First Base
Mike Ford $5.3k/Luke Voit $4.8k - I don't know which one of them is starting or if they're both starting but the Yankees should put up a lot of runs tonight (per usual when they're in Baltimore). Both of these guys have some pop in their bats. There are cheaper options however if you can't find the space for them.
Paul Goldschmidt $4.4k - I'm not a huge PVB guy but Goldy has hit Rich Hill very well so far in his career. At this price, in this ballpark, with his talent, this is lining up to be a good play. Of course it is MLB DFS so who knows?
Eric Hosmer $3.5k - Hosmer is coming into this game hot to start the season with a .500 BA and 1.583 OPS. The underpaid 1st basemen is matched up against Johnny Cueto who gets smoked by lefties. Hosmer is cheap and will allow you to pay up for some bigger bats while also putting some points on the board himself.
C.J. Cron $3.2k - I'm expecting Cron to draw some high ownership here. It's been pretty standard to play him against lefties these past few years and he's going to save you some salary for the big boys.
Second Base
Whit Merrifield $4.2k - I understand that we're still at the beginning of the season and prices are a little weird but come on... He's a beast! One of the best hitters in baseball and also 20 FOR 39 WITH 8 EXTRA BASE HITS VS BOYD. If he throws up a goose egg then you should still be fine because I think he'll be very high owned. You shouldn't pay higher than this at second base unless you use him at outfield.
Jonathon Schoop $3.3k - Similar to Cron. When he's up against a lefty it means he's usually in a good spot. This is if you absolutely can't get to Merrifield.
Luis Arraez $3.2k - Same price as Schoop and I like him probably the same amount. He's a good hitter and at that price you're just looking for a hit or two with some RBI's or runs.
Third Base
DJ LeMahieu $5.3k/Gio Urshela $5k - Same deal as before. I imagine both of these guys are starting tonight and I already mentioned how I like the Yankees tonight. I'm glad NYY are all priced high enough to where they won't necessarily be too chalky.
Jeff McNeil $4.8k - Lefties can really mash Eovaldi and I think this can be the match up that will get McNeil going. We already know how great of a hitter he is and if the Mets get to the Boston bullpen quickly then they will be in great shape. The Red Sox look lost on the mound and don't have a go-to guy to rely on.
Josh Donaldson $4.2k - He got on the board yesterday with his first dinger of the season and his first one in a Twins uniform. Ponse de Leon (STL) actually has reverse splits so the right handed bats are what give him the most trouble. JD has big time power and is always a bomb threat.
David Fletcher $3.3k - Nobody is talking about the goat. He is on FIRE going 10 for 18 to start the season and scoring double digit DK points in all but one game. Grab him while he's this cheap because I'm expecting a price bump starting tomorrow.
Colin Moran $3.1k - Here is your 3rd base cheapy. Moran is on fire to start the season with 3 home runs and a 1.362 OPS. The match up isn't great but sometimes a hitter is hot enough to be match up proof. Big time punt here.
Shortstop
Gleyber Torres $5.2k - It's no secret that this man owns the Orioles. Gleyber Torres last season vs Baltimore: .400/.474.1.060; 1.534 OPS ... yeah. If I'm paying up for a bat on this slate, it's this guy. It's not bold and he'll draw some ownership but I don't care. You can also play him at 2nd in case you want one of these guys I'm about to name.
Corey Seager $4.4k - Batting 5th in the middle of this dodgers lineup against the young right hander Cristian Javier (HOU). Honestly, I don't know much about Javier. What I do know is that both of these teams are going to be at each other's neck. I can see these Dodger bats attacking early and I like when Seager is in the middle of their lineup.
Jorge Polanco $3.8k - The more I look through this slate, the more I find decent plays below 4k. Polanco is a switch hitter which is a beautiful thing to have in DFS. I think this game ends up having a good amount of scoring and Polanco has been very hot to start the season with double digit DK points in all but one game.
Outfield
Giancarlo Stanton $5.8k - He looks great to start the year. If he continues to hit like this, then just give New York the title now. Yankees stack is in play so if you can snag him then I would. However, it's unrealistic to think that you can get all of these guys so I would rank Torres above him.
Cody Bellinger $5.3k - Great pivot if you can't get to Stanton. I doubt he stays quiet for too much longer. Dodgers in general look good.
Michael Conforto $4.6k - I mentioned before how I like some Mets lefties tonight and Conforto is seeing the ball well to start the season. I think this is a fair price and I don't want to sound like a broken record but, Red Sox pitching is bad.
Nelson Cruz $4.4k - If you're going to have some Twins bats then Nelly Cruz should be in there. He should honestly be around $5k so you're getting him at a great price.
Jorge Soler $3.6k - I don't want to stack the Royals and I think that's what some people are going to do based off pricing. Soler just hits tanks though so how could I not mention him at this price point. He's there if you want him
Tyler O'Neill $3k - Batting 5th in that STL/MIN game. Has solid numbers against lefties and he likes to hit the ball in the air. Good cheap option.
Michael Brantley $3k - I don't even like the match up. It just bothers me that he's still this cheap. He's a good hitter so there's not a problem with rostering him.
