MLB DFS PICKS FOR DRAFTKINGS 8/4/2020

The MLB lives to see another day! Yesterday I wrote about the starting pitchers on the slate and it ended up being spot on. Tonight we have a nice 10 game slate that includes the return of the Miami Marlins. I'm excited for this one and I'm looking to make it two in a row as we try to get back on track. It doesn't look like weather will be an issue tonight so let's get into it!

Pitcher

Patrick Corbin $10.4k

Here we have the only pitcher on the slate priced above $10k. While the matchup isn't great, Corbin has already shown the ability to silence top tier bats as he threw six strong innings against the best offense in the MLB (NYY). He was able to hold them to two hits (one being a home run) and no walks. He gets the Mets tonight who can put up runs in bunches but are still capable of being shut down. I think he will be pretty low owned which is why I'm including him in my picks today. A player of his caliber could end up being a great GPP play on a night like this. I will most likely be avoiding him in cash.

Lance Lynn $9.9k

I would argue that Lynn is in a similar spot to Corbin tonight. Both are facing a couple of tough offenses but have the capability of shutting down their opponents. What a great start to the 2020 season for Lance. His ERA remains at 0.00 and was able to exceed 100 pitches in both starts. As we know, he goes for strikeouts and sometimes gets a little wild. This just screams GPP tonight in a matchup with the A's who are one of the better offenses in the league but also have some guys who strikeout at a high rate. The upside is there but again, most likely won't make my cash lineup.

Max Fried $8.5k

Tough year so far for the Braves' starting rotation with yet another injury last night. They're going to have to push through it to stay in the World Series hunt. Fried will have to be a big part of that and tonight he gets a weak Blue Jays lineup. He really shouldn't have too much trouble tonight with this matchup and he looked really solid in his first two outings against better offenses. In fact, he was was perfect against the Rays last Thursday until the 5th inning. Great signs from the 26 year old lefty and at $8.5k, I think you can confidently roster him while also saving room for some big bats.

Andrew Heaney $8k

If you know me then you know I'm a big believer in this guy. He's 29 years old but hasn't necessarily had that big season I'm waiting for. However, last year he finished the season with an impressive 11.1 K/9. It's unfortunate that I always have to worry about Joe Maddon's quick trigger when using one of his pitchers. Heaney has yet to throw beyond the 4th inning and for that reason, this play comes with some risk. Hopefully Joe can loosen up a little and let his guys throw more than 70 pitches. If he does, this play could really pay off with the Mariners having the highest srikeout rate in the league. I'm calling over 10 strikeouts for Heaney tonight (unless Maddon does some shit).

Kyle Hendricks $7.7k

I really can't believe how cheap Hendricks is tonight against the Royals. I imagine it has to do with his poor outing in Cincinnati last time out but let's not forget what he did on opening day vs the Brewers. I'm willing to ignore the struggle in his last start in hope that maybe it'll scare away some people. We have good pitching conditions again in Wrigley tonight and Hendricks should be able to make this Royals lineup look absolutely foolish. It's really fun to watch him pitch and see how frustrated the opposing hitters get when they're getting schooled by the professor. Love him in all formats tonight.

Cristian Javier $6.5k

If you must go down this low for your SP2 then I think you should be fine with Javier. I actually think he's a bit under priced here with his ability to rack up some strikeouts. He was $100 more expensive in his last start against the Dodgers where he put up 25 DK points without even receiving the win so it would make sense to roster him in a way better matchup while also being cheaper. I'm not opposed to this play at all especially if you're trying to find ways to get some Coors bats in your lineup. Beware of the risk as we still haven't seen much from the 23 year old rookie.

Catcher

Wilson Contreras $4.7k

This is by far the ugliest position on the slate but you can never go wrong with him. He'll be low owned if you want to go that route but I think punting catcher is the way to go.

Tyler Flowers 3.4k

Good price here for Flowers and he has a homer against Shoemaker already in his career.

Yan Gomes $3.3k

I like the Nats tonight and Gomes hits lefties well. I wish he was batting higher in the order but you're really just looking for a cheap bomb here.

First Base

Daniel Murphy $4.5k

I think he should be over $5k. One of the more affordable Coors bats to fit in your line and I love the Rockies stack tonight.

Jesus Aguilar $4k

You're really just looking for a tank or two when your roster him and this is the time to do it against a bad lefty.

Yuli Gurriel $3.7k

I actually really like the Stros tonight vs MadBum. His velo is wayyyy down and this is a team that can certainly take advantage of that.

Second Base

Jose Altuve $5.3k

I can't imagine anyone will be paying up for him here but if I'm right about the Astros tonight then he should be included in your stack. GPP only.

Howie Kendrick $3.7k

I imagine this is where most people will go since he's too cheap and has a great matchup vs a lefty. Nationals righties look decent.

Starlin Castro $3.3k

I like the matchup and I'm feeling his first home run of the season here. Batting 5th in that Nats lineup.

Chris Owings $3.2k

I was pretty mad last night when he decided to go deep at 30% owned. I don't know if it'll happen again but this price at Coors is way too cheap. Don't be surpised when he's over 50% owned. Also available in the OF spot.

Third Base

Nolan Arenado $5.3k

Finally hit his first bomb yesterday and the matchup is another good one. Gausman is actually way worse vs Righties. If Nolan found his groove then there's absolutely no way he doesn't hit another one out tonight.

Brian Anderson $4.4k

This game should have a good amount of scoring and Anderson can really tee off in a matchup like this. He's also available in the outfield so you can still have Nolan in there.

Carter Kieboom $3.7k

Calling a KieBOOOM bomb tonight. Great matchup and he's performing well so far this year. Also available at short.

Shortstop

Trevor Story $5.7k

If you have the room then jam him in there. Like I said about Nolan, if he's feeling it then there's double dong potential.

Trea Turner $4.8k

I always love rostering a guy like this who has wheels and some pop in his bat. If you do want to do a little Nats stack then don't forget about Trea. Great pivot from Story.

David Fletcher $3.8k

I also like the Angels tonight and this guy can hit! He goes so under the radar and this is too cheap for him.

Outfield

Charlie Blackmon $5.8k

I just know that if I don't roster him, I'll regret it. When stacking the Rockies, this is a guy you don't want to forget. Hitting third in an absolute cake matchup. Wouldn't be surprised to see over 8 runs for the Rockies tonight.

David Dahl $5.1k

If you can't get up to Charlie then take the discount and get their leadoff hitter. You could really benefit from having both of them in your lineup.

Anthony Santander $4.1k

Good matchup for the O's tonight. I like their lefties and Santander will be in the 2 hole tonight in a possibly high scoring game.

Teoscar Hernandez $3.8k

This is a good one off even if you're pitching Fried tonight. Hard to ignore what Hernandez has been doing as he's quietly been one of the best hitters in the league. Nobody in the league is hitting the ball harder than him and he KILLS lefties.

Matt Kemp $3.6k

Not sure what he has to do for a price bump. Easy play for me and hitting in the middle of the Rockies lineup.

Jo Adell $3.2k

I'm excited to watch this kid. We expect this to be his debut tonight so feel free to take a shot on Jo at this price. Lord knows he'll be over $5k before we know it.
