We are nearly at the half way point of the NFL regular season! Week 7 was a miserable DFS week for me, but I am still up pretty good on the season, mostly due to my near takedown Week 6 lineup. In terms of the main slate, Week 8 is pretty similar to Week 7 with the injuries and top plays, but there are many new options based on situations and match-ups as well. Usually I have a strict method of what positions to pay-up for during each week, but I don't think there is a right or wrong approach to take for tomorrow's main slate. If the trend that has been happening to me all season continues tomorrow, then we are in for a big week. Let's dive into the breakdown of the slate!
Injury News:
RB OUT:
Aaron Jones, Nick Chubb, Joe Mixon, Raheem Mostert, Austin Ekeler, Jeff Wilson, Sony Michel
RB Questionable:
Dalvin Cook, Chris Carson, Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram II, Damien Harris, Tevin Coleman, Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde
WR OUT:
Michael Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr., Deebo Samuel, Julian Edelman, Emmanuel Sanders, Sammy Watkins, Allen Lazard, N'Keal Harry, Breshad Perriman, Marquez Callaway
WR Questionable:
Jamison Crowder, Tim Patrick
TE OUT:
Austin Hooper
TE Questionable:
Tyler Higbee, Mo Alie-Cox
Top Play:
Tyler Lockett - $7,200:
Usually my top play of the slate is a running back, but I decided to head in a different direction for this week. The player that I will be locking into my lineup is Tyler Lockett. D.K. Metcalf is a fine pivot off of him for tournament contests, but I would highly suggest playing a Seahawks receiver. San Francisco may look like one of the top defenses in the league, but they are not close to the level that they were last season. They had stellar performances against underwhelming quarterbacks like Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, and Cam Newton, but got torn up by Fitzpatrick just a few weeks ago. Not much needs to be said about Tyler Lockett after the 15-200-3 stat line he posted last week. Given his target share and high upside, I love Lockett at $7,200.
Best Value:
Giovani Bernard - $5,900, Myles Gaskin - $5,700:
I love both Giovani Bernard and Myles Gaskin as value plays this week. It is not a bad idea to play both of them, but I prefer paying up for two of the higher priced running backs and flexing either of these two. Both Bernard and Gaskin will get the majority of their team's carries, and will see plenty of targets out of the backfield. Bernard and Gaskin play two solid run defenses in the Titans and the Rams, but their high volume and cheap price are too good to pass on. Other good value plays include DeeJay Dallas (only if Carson and Hyde sit), Brandon Aiyuk, A.J. Green, Corey Davis, and Jimmy Graham.
Fade:
Patrick Mahomes - $9,200:
Like my top play, usually my fade for the week is a running back, but I think the majority of running backs this week are quality options. I am not as high on Jamaal Williams as others are, but I do think that he is playable if you like him this week. The only reason that I am fading Patrick Mahomes is because he is playing the Jets. Playing a top quarterback against a bad defense is usually a recipe for success, but the Jets are so bad that I don't think he will be throwing it much past the second half. I expect Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le'Veon Bell to get a ton of touches, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mahomes sits late in the game. Patrick Mahomes does have the extremely high upside that you desire for tournaments, but I prefer Russell Wilson and some of the cheaper options much more this week, especially in cash formats.
